CLASS NOTES - 1960's

Mr. Paul Kompfner - 1968
Bachelor of Arts

I was in the first class of undergraduates at UCSD in September 1964. We were only 181 students, and there were no less than 3 Nobel prize laureats on the faculty, plus other notables such as Herbert Marcuse (philosophy).

I took a BA in physics in 1968, went to Oxford and studied astrophysics for 4 years then got a job at the UK Transport and Road Research Laboratory, studying transport system modelling. After a varied career of 21 years I moved to Brussels on secondment, to ERTICO, ITS Europe, to work on a variety of European projects in intelligent transport systems.

I've just started a new project, CVIS (cooperative vehicle-infrastructure systems) that is developing a kind of "Wi-Fi" technology adapted for moving vehicles, and the applications and services that can take advantage of these new communication links between vehicles and infrastructure.
