Undergraduate Students Recognized for Accomplishments
in Award Ceremony

A recognition ceremony and reception was held by the Division of Physical Sciences,
November 2, 2007 at the Natural Sciences Building, Front Plaza along with faculty, family and friends to present 21 undergraduate students with the 2007 Dean's Undergraduate
Awards for Excellence.

The annual award was established to recognize undergraduate students who have demonstrated academic excellence and promise as researchers.  This award given to these exceptional students honors the caliber of their accomplishments as undergraduates enrolled in the various majors of the Departments of Chemistry/Biochemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Environmental Sciences. Also the faculty and staff of the Division of Physical Sciences are very proud of their successes and achievements.   Faculty members from each of the departments nominated qualified candidates who had completed their Junior Year in the Spring Quarter for this award.

"Our undergraduates at UCSD are among the best anywhere. What particularly distinguishes our students is the combined depth and breadth of their education. It is for this reason that we are extraordinarily pleased to honor our students who have excelled and to reward their dedication and hard work," Dean Mark Thiemens remarked.

Special recognition awards were presented to Bruce Dorman (Physics) for the Michelle Youngers Award, Sophia Oller (Chemistry/Biochemistry) for the Kristin Hiibner Award. Also, Michael McKeown (Chemistry/Biochemistry) was awarded the Jean and Max Kramer Award.
