Peter Wolynes, Professor of Chemistry & Biochemistry
.
Chemistry and Biochemistry Professor Peter Wolynes has been awarded the 2009-2010 Joseph O. Hirschfelder Prize in Theoretical Chemistry.
The annual prize carries a cash award of $15,000 and was established at the Theoretical Chemistry Institute at the University of Wisconsin by Joseph and Elizabeth Hirschfelder, both longtime faculty in the departments of chemistry and mathematics at Wisconsin.
As part of the celebration of this award, Wolynes will give three major talks in Madison, WI, October 12-14. According to UW Chemistry Professor James Skinner, "Prof. Wolynes was chosen for the Hirschfelder prize because of his seminal contributions to two of the major theoretical problems in condensed matter physics and biology: the glass transition and protein folding."
