Sam Knight

BA Applied Physics and Information Science, '73

sam knight in blue shirtSam Knight is a retired high-tech businessman/engineer whose post-retirement career is as a passionate advocate of UC San Diego alumni/student engagements serving as coordinator, moderator and panelist on topics about life after graduation. He has served as mentor for entrepreneurs at the UC San Diego Basement, Institute for the Global Entrepreneur, and iCorps and chairs a committee in the Jacobs School of Engineering on Career Readiness.

Knight held technical and business roles in industry across many technologies, including vice president at LocationSmart cloud-based location-based services, directing international marketing for Copper Mountain Networks (DSL) and wireless data technologies (CDPD and PHS) at Pacific Communication Sciences, Inc./ADC Wireless. He also directed product development and business capture for imaging and computer aided design companies Encad/Kodak, Megatek/Ball Systems, GE/Calma and Control Data Corporations.

Knight earned his BA in applied physics and information science from UC San Diego. He was named a UC San Diego True Triton in 2019 and a UC San Diego Revelle College Honorary Fellow in 2025.
