Mentoring Programs
School of Physical Sciences Cohort Program
The Cohort Program is a group experience for students to work together as a community, build foundational knowledge, and launch successful careers in STEM. The cohort takes chemistry, math and physics courses together, and continues to take courses together throughout the first two years. Students receive mentorship from experienced peers, in addition to professional guidance from faculty and staff.
Transfer Research Experience (T-REx)
The Transfer Research Experience (T-REx) offers incoming transfer students a 4-week program in the summer before their first enrolled fall quarter where students work in a research group in the Departments of Astronomy & Astrophysics, Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics side-by-side with other undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs
Summer Program for Undergraduate Research in Science (SPURS)
The Summer Program for Undergraduate Research in Science (SPURS) provides funding for UC San Diego undergraduate students majoring in the physical sciences (astronomy & astrophysics, chemistry & biochemistry, mathematics, physics) to conduct a summer research project under the guidance of a UC San Diego faculty member. The program immerses students full time in a research topic for 10 weeks. Students are awarded a $7,500 stipend in support of their time and efforts conducting a summer research project.
